Winter Solstice (Southern Hemisphere)

The Winter Solstice, also known as the hibernal solstice, occurs during winter when one of Earth's poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. For the Southern Hemisphere, the Winter Solstice represents the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, and when the sun is at its lowest position in the sky.

From 21 June, every day becomes a little longer (and warmer) as the Southern Hemisphere draws closer to its Summer Solstice.
