International Day of the Midwife

Midwives put women and the family at the centre of care and at the heart of every decision, empowering them to be genuine partners in their care and improving their care experience. The significance and importance of providing women, their partners and families with compassionate care cannot be underestimated.

International Day of the Midwife, celebrated on 5 May each year is a chance for midwives to celebrate their profession and for society to recognise their work and contribution to maternal and newborn health.

We thank every midwife working across Australia for their ongoing commitment to high quality midwifery care and the dedication, skill and compassionate care that midwives provide to women and their families.
